The economy in Saldecla is based around the gold coin currency, which is a thin disk of pure gold, about 1mm thick and 8mm in diameter. It is roughly stamped with the seal of the royal mint-- a shield surrounded by laurels. It is easy to counterfeit, but not many chose to do so because it is time-consuming to make enough to purchase of a loaf bread.
Originally meant to stand for the worth of gold itself, a huge vein was discovered that increased supply so drastically that there was too much gold, and its worth plummeted as more and more gold veins were found, until it became nearly worthless. Now, the worth of the coins is measured compared to freshwater pearls-- each 25,000 coins is worth one pearl, and can be traded in at the bank in Roi Saldecla.
